Drift Taxi

The other day I was doing some research when I came across this video shot on ARUBA, our sister island.

Aruba, as seen from the heavens
I wasn't able to find more details but it seems those crazy Arubans are organizing with some frequency now, a so-called "Drift Taxi" event, in which a professional driver will drive you around the famed Bushiri Karting Track in your very own drift session.
Drift Taxi is held mostly on Sunday's, early afternoon and the fee is just Awg. 20 florin. For more info, please click here.

Below a great "Drift Taxi" video, set to some cool tunes:

The Bushiri Karting Track is conveniently located near the low rise hotels (Oranjestad) and easily accessible by rental car or taxi. Back in 1990,  I was a podium finisher in the A-B-C Classic karting race and I can attest that it is a great track for drifting as well.

The track has been reviewed by many and you can find these on Trip Advisor, please click here.

"Drift Taxi", sign me up! Next time in Aruba I will surely visit.

Thanks for reading.

For the fans!

What do you do when you are leading a WRC rally by a wide margin? You take it easy and bring the car home...right?

In 2002's Catalunya Rally, Gilles Panizzi breaks with all tradition and does a 360 degrees donut drift at Viladrau stage 15 of the rally, much to the dismay of his navigator (who is his brother as well). I guess he forgot to give him a heads-up!

Gilles recognized the special situation he found himself in, leading the race by more than 30 seconds, and decided to treat the fans to a show. He knew that the corner at Viladrau would be packed with die-hard fans. This hair pin corner is a favourite of fans who camp overnight in an effort to secure the best spots and picnic there on race day watching the rally cars go by.

Amazingly, this move for the fan's sake only cost him 10 seconds.

Drifting in Jordan

Occasionally I like to add some humour to Friday blogs...in the spirit of those who had a tough week. So this goes out to you...TGIF.

Below a video of Ahmad Daham in his BMW E30 who "ta buta drama" in the Kingdom of Jordan. The action is truly amazing and no, that is not the sound of machine guns or bazookas going off as the crowd goes absolutely nuts. Rather it is the sound of the engine banging against the rev limiter as Ahmad stands on the gas pedal as he maneuvers the track. The sound is out of this world.

It wouldn't surprise me that somewhere in the crowd, surrounded by men in dark sunglasses, King Abdullah II himself is watching and proudly thinking, "boy, can this guy drive".

Thanks for watching.
