In 2007 I attended for the first time the Goodwood Festival of Speed, at Chichester, and boy was I hooked. We all were!
The sheer quantity of cool, historic and exotic automobiles was quite astonishing. And the event itself was top-notch. And even though I didn't make it this year again to this great event, which was held July 11-14, at the Goodwood House and its 1.16 mile hill climb in West Sussex, England, it continues to grow in popularity. A record of 195.000 visitors attended the event, with more than 150 star drivers and riders, and more than 500 interesting and diverse cars.
Below you can see a very cool 1970 Martini Racing Porsche 917K Hippie car.
What I find interesting about the picture of the Martini liveried Porsche on the right is that the driver is wearing an open faced helmet. To me, this is the way God had intended racers to be seen. Then, they just kept going faster which solicited them wearing closed-face modern helmets.
If you ever have a chance, try to make it to the one and only Goodwood Festival of Speed. It usually runs one weekend in July, but be sure to book at least 6 months in advance, or you run the risk of not finding "lodging" .
Thanks for reading.
