Yes. Absolutely awesome is this next ride, Jay Leno's 1906 Stanley Steamer.
See for yourself and watch the video below. At the very least watch the first 1.30 minutes and from minute 23 onwards to see this vehicle at its best, under power (err I mean steam).
Quick notes: steam engines have a huge amount of torque and are direct drive (use no transmission like modern day cars). You need about 15 minutes to properly adjust everything prior to hitting the road, with speeds of 65 mph at 500 to 600 psi. Max speed exceeds 127 mph!
One of the key selling points of modern-day cars is how many miles a gallon does it get. With Jay's steamer it is how many miles a gallon of water.... actually it is 1 mile a gallon.
Thanks to Jay Leno can well all enjoy these fabulous machines from afar. Again, to me this is much cooler than driving today's baddest supercar.
