The racing weekend that was - Wk 30

In Formula One, at the Hungaroring:
If you thought the German GP was exciting, then the next Hungarian GP would be a thriller. A huge downpour just an hour before the race left everyone on intermediate tires.

After the start of the race Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) seemed poised to win again from pole as he had built up a considerable lead but in a round of pit stops after Marcus Ericson crashed head-on into the barriers, he lost the lead. His teammate Lewis Hamilton who spun early one changed to a one stop tire strategy and at a point had gotten team orders to let Rosberg through, who was making up his way back up to P1. However, the Brit was relentless in defending his position and the German Rosberg would not get through.

With 9 laps to go, it was Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) leading Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), but with the slower Alonso holding up the others, Rosberg got the chance he needed and starting to push very hard in an attempt to catch the leaders. Sensing that the Rosberg was on a tear, Ricciardo made a brilliant move to pass Hamilton around the outside of Turn 2, drifting the car on exit to get to the Turn 3 apex ahead. He quickly disposed of Alonso who's tires were shot to win his second win of 2014. Rosberg eventually caught up with Hamilton but could not pass him and settled for third place.

Top five:
1. Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull
2. Fernando Alonso, Ferrari
3. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes (pictured)
4. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes
5. Felipe Massa, Williams

Next up is the Belgian GP, August August 22-24, 2014.

In PDRA, US Drags in Virginia:
Lizzy Musi, the 23-year-old daughter of doorslammer drag racing legend and master engine builder Pat Musi, earned her first career win in the inaugural Professional Drag Racers Association. Lizzy beat points leader Jason Harris in the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous final. Lizzy drives Frank Brandao's 2009 Dodge Stratus King Kong V.
Pat Musi is a frequent visitor to Curaçao as he has been coming to the island for years now driving the King Kong cars in the Top Gun Category, where is also the national track record holder. We are lucky to have him. Click here to watch the winning run and here for the interview.

In Pro Extreme, Brandon Snider showed up without a screw blower to bolt atop his alcohol-burning Hemi, but he was able to borrow a spare from fellow competitor Neal Wantye. This is how things are done in drag racing. Often the fellas operating on the tightest budgets get help from competitors and make it to go rounds. Hell, as with happened with Snider, he even won the event with a screw blower on loan. In the final round, he ran a 3.56 at 210.90 to win over D'Aprile.

In Extreme Pro Stock, the Dean's Casing Service Chevy Camaro has been on a tear the last couple of weeks, winning back-to-back races. Always a team to reckoned with, partly due to the Dobbins duo, the two car team of father and son had their eyes set on another great weekend. But when Dean Goforth got lost in the second round, son Dean vowed to go all the way. Starting with an epic three-minute staging duel in round one with John Pluchino, who lost that race, then outrunning Gahm and Lester Cooper in the finals.
