Race simulators getting very realistic

It was only a matter of time before we got real racing simulators. Even professional drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. are using the new PC technology, called iRacing, to go faster and win races, on the cheap. Not that there's nothing wrong with that.

Simulator rigs vary from person to person. The closed cabin feel generated from the five screens surrounding the driver are necessary to create directional viewing, while smaller screens assist in race positioning and vehicle data. What's missing in the setup in the video below is the motion-sensitive seat. It is pretty amazing to see the driver battle for the win in a digital race at Mid-Ohio

Quoting from Jalopnic: "Watch it long enough and the ceiling disappears and for a moment you feel like you're watching a real race from the inside of a Ford GT. Why would anyone ever leave their basement [guest bedroom]".
