The engine of the future

We've just had a peek into the future.

From the folk at Car & Driver we've heard that Koenigsegg are engineering their twin-turbo V8 engine to run without a camshaft. Yes, that's right. Supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg has partnered will fellow Swedish firm Cargine Engineering to raise the veil from the secretive world of Formula One, and bring us into the future.

In a nutshell, regular engines use a camshaft and a valve spring, but Koenigsegg's camless engine will open the valve with pneumatically driven actuators. At first, they will be both expensive and loud, but these are all obstacles that Koenigsegg is confident they will overcome. Click here for more details. Finally, what is amazing is that they expect these engines to be 30% more efficient that what we are accustomed to today. Way better than that "ecoboost" crap!
