More engine diapers, less downtime

In the sport of drag racing, one of the things that should be avoided as much as possible is the track's downtime. This can be due to a technical failure, an accident, or an engine failure causing fluids spilling down on the track. As a typical race can take as long as 6+ hours, having too many of these naturally obstructs the natural flow of he event with many spectators doubting whether they should stay or start heading towards the exit gates.

Fortunately, with the advent of engine diapers the clean up of oil downs is taking less long. In a recent study in the United States, there was a marked improvement in downtime during the 2014 drag race season. Much of it is directly attributed to the broader use of engine diapers. Tracks and sanctioning bodies around the world continue to encourage all drivers that race race purpose built cars to consider putting a diaper on their car. Note that engine diapers ARE NOT meant for street cars.

Though the pro classes competing in IHRA sanctioned races are required to use diapers, so are now Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Quick Rod. Also, any car that is supercharged or nitrous injected that runs 7.99 or quicker 1/4 or 5.00 or quicker 1/8 mile is also required to have a diaper.

Nevertheless, there are still some out there that have yet to adopt the engine diaper idea. As a fellow racer who has often stayed till very late in order to finish a race that was hampered by too many oil downs, I urge as many as possible to jump on the band wagon and adopt engine diapers. Installing an engine diaper may not only shorten the time it takes for the clean up crew to do their work, but it may also save your car. It could save you from possible injury or maybe even save your life.
