Terrifying Turbo Boost engine explosion

Drag racing can be hot in North America's plains states, but this is something else. We usually do not promote sensationalism but as this was an exceptional incident from which the driver escaped virtually unhurt, we opted to share it with you.

During night time qualifying in the Pro Boost category of the PDRA "Under The Lights" race last night, former owner of Tulsa Raceway Park Jerry Yeoman suffered a terrifying explosion. From what we can tell, the driver wound up the motor a little too tight and the turbo charged engine burst into flames, which emanated enough heat to be felt as far as six rows up into the stands.

Luckily driver was just shaken and a bit disoriented but was unhurt as far as we know. Kudos to those who manufacture the safety equipment.

Below a series of pictures snapped by legendary drag racing photographer Roger Richards. The pictures show just how massive the explosion was and the extend to which the safety equipment do their job and keep us safe.

On a side note, Roger Richards visited Curacao International Raceway back in 2010 to cover The Drag Fest.
