Racing during weekend #8

In WSBK:
Max Biaggi at Phillip Island
Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa, both past world champions, split this dramatic opener on Australian soil.

Biaggi won the first 22-lap race, while Checa suffered a high-side fall on the final corner while in the lead. And even though rain threatened twice during the race, it didn't have a real effect on the riders or the race.

The second 22-lap race was won by Checa, who had recovered from his earlier fall. The great performance of this race came from Biaggi, who had run off the track on the first lap. Fortunately he kept his bike upright and rejoined in last place. He then fought through the field to take second place.

Comments on the second race:

Checa: "I'm really satisfied, even more so after the crash in Tace 1. I'm OK now after winning, I think it's the best anti-inflammatory I can take today!"

Biaggi: " I'm very happy, we did so much hard work to get into the top 5. When you are down in 15th or 16th position your bike is moving around all over the place. Once again we are first and second, we did a good job. Tom [Sykes] is a difficult man to pass! He touched my brake lever, which turned up so luckily I stayed on the bike."

In NASCAR:
The much anticipated Daytona 500 was postponed due to rain. Scattered showeres..and then some more rain..and then some more. Due to still more rain it has been re-scheduled to be run on Monday, February 27 on 7:01 pm EST. It can bee seen on Fox.

Update:
This BIZARE race starts fast and furious at 7.01 pm on Monday and after a mere two laps a wreck takes out six cars, including Trevor bayne, Danica Patrick, Kurt Busch and David Regan. There were plenty of other wrecks too. Some forty laps before the finish and under caution, Juan Pablo Montoya abruptly spun out (due to mechanical faillure) on the backstretch and slid up into jet drier located in the upper grove of turn 3. The contact resulted in an explosion with flames shooting high up in the air and some 200 gallons of jet fuel spilling down the embankment. This incident resulted in the officials red flagging the race for another two hours. In the end, Matt Kenseth edged Jr to the finish line.

Race results: 1. Matt Kenseth, 2. Dale Earnhardt Jr., 3. Greg Biffle, 4. Denny Hamlin, 5. Jeff Burton.
