Kia GT Concept

In all honesty, I never thought I'd write a report about a premium GT car by Kia, albeit a concept car. That should tell you how much I know about the car industry.

I am referring to the Kia GT four-door sports sedan concept. It is the Korean car maker's first rear-wheel-drive concept and is powered by a 3.3-liter turbocharged engine putting out some 395 hp, and coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission pushes the concept quite fast.

Michael Sprague, marketing vice president commenting on direction,"For us, we've been known as a fuel-efficient, quality and value brand. Now we are moving forward as a design brand."

"The rear-wheel drive allows us to play with different proportions," said Gergory Guillaume, chief designer at Kia's European Design Center. "The cabin is now further back, and it has a more dynamic silhouette. We think of our customers who are young at heart...looking for character and style."

With a dashboard, made of three layers of glass, and transparent when the LED-lit displays are turned off, I'd say the design team have hit their mark. Even though no price has been set for the GT, I'd think it would be comparable to the already established brands less a discount for having the Kia logo on the hood...figure of speech.
