The weekend that was (#11)

In Formula One:
Jensen Button (McLaren) took the lead at the drop of the green flag (read: red lights out) in Melbourne, Australia, and was in complete control until the safety car came out. But he eventually kept Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing), who was driving in second place, at bay to win the first race of the season. McLaren driver Luis Hamilton came in third place.

Button on his victory "There's a huge amount of positives to take way from this weekend: we've ot a great car and we can fight for the world championship."

Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) made a superb comeback and finished seventh..."it feels like I've never been away. [On race Sunday] we made some mistakes which cost us quite badly so it could easily have been better in the race."

The guys from Maranello had a race to forget. Ferrari number one is his own words, "Today [on Race day] the car was better than yesterday and we were closer to the leaders. However, we still have a lot of work to do to reach those who are ahead of us in terms of performance; not just McLaren and Red Bull, but also Mercedes and Lotus."

Venezolean driver Pastor Maldonado (Williams) had a very strong outing and was running in sixth place battling with Fernando Alonso for fifth when he lost the rear end of the car. Maldonado had qualified eight and was on course to have his best ever finish in F1.

Below a video of the Maldonado crash and Albert Park.

The next race is this weekend in hot and humid Malaysia.

In ALMS:
As was widely expected Audi returned to victory lane at the 12 Hours of Sebring with a one-two finish. The veteran trio of Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen, and Allan McNish drove their R18 to win by a four lap margin of victory.
Dyson Racing won the ALMS P1 class while Joey Hand won in GT for BMW

In NASCAR:
Bristol Motor Speedway is one of those special tracks for Nascar drivers and accordingly the trophy is always highly contested.

Brad Keselowski resisted pressure from Matt Kenseth for some 110 laps to win at Bristol. An early multi-car wreck wiped out the hopes of Kasey kahne, Car Edwards, Marcos Ambrose and Kyle Bush. Whilst racing hard, Dale Jr took his frustrations out on his team mate Jeff Gordon by bumping into him and so cutting his tire. Oddly enough, Jeff Gordon thanked him for this on the radio (I'm sure this will not end here).

Just as a side note: the Daytona International Race way will repave the area affected after the Montoya incident.
