Remembering Ayrton Senna

May 1st, 2014, marked the twentieth anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna at the San Marino GP.

I didn't want this date to pass without paying tribute to what is arguable the greatest driver of F1 the world has ever seen. The Brazilian lost control of his FW16, which he had been complaining about, in the Tamburello curve. The day before, Roland Ratzenberger had crashed and lost his life in qualifying, and the day earlier Rubens Barichello had crashed after his Jordan became airborne.

Below follows a short video regarding the activities at Imola for the 20th anniversary.

The tragic accidents of that weekend triggered a major safety overhaul in F1 racing. For more information about Ayrton Senna on FulTrot, please see below:
- F1's guardian angel, Sir Sid Watkins,
- Senna, the movie,
- Senna, lap of life,

His last team mate, Sir Damon Hill, made a very interesting video which I highly recommend people to watch. To do so, kindly click here.

Thanks for the memories Ayrton. And for ultimately making Formula One safer for everyone.
