The 2012 Geneva Auto Show

For those who missed this year's Geneva Motor Show, here is a recap.

Of course, we have to kick it off with the big announcement from Ferrari with their latest supercar, the F12Berlinetta. The F12 puts out a massive 730 hp and puts its sights on the Lamborghini Aventador's 700. Too bad it's not a stick shift. It does put the power to the ground through a dual-clutch gearbox and the engine's redline is set at 8.700 RPM. They say that the 0-60 time on this is a mere 3.1 seconds. Price range will probably be in the mid-$300.000 range.

Next up is the new concept SUV by Bentley. It is called the EXP 9 F and is powered by a 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W-12 engine, similar to the ones used in other Bentley cars. Horsepower could be as high as 600. However, the suits are quick to point out that their V8 or a hybrid drivetrain could fit in the SUV as well. The SUV seats four (possible five).
How cool would that be? Just picturing those hot soccer mom's in one of these....Dios spar nos!

Not one too play second fiddle, the folk at Lamborghini chopped off the roof of a Aventador and called it "J" (as in Will Smith's code name in Men in Black). What makes this interesting is that it has no windshield either. I guess they are following the concept of: "less is more". And since they build only one, the price is likely to be astronomical. Still, I'd like to drive it without getting bugs stuck in my teeth!

This was not planned..but guess what...the next car lost its roof too. The Range Rover Evoque Covertible concept caught the bug too. They must have paid attention to the complaints regarding lack of rearview visibility, and decided the best and most effective way to fix this problem was to saw off the roof. Other than that, it is the same as the Evoque on sale now, so in essence this concept is production-ready.

Next up is the new Porsche Boxter and Boxter S. The base Boxter's six-cylinder is now 2.7 liters, a drop from 2.9, but its horsepower jumps to 265. It will be available with either a 6 speed manual tranny or a Porsche's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, aka the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). Which PCC member will bring this bad boy to Curacao?

A bit late too the party (some people just love the attention) BMW has finally joined the club with their own Gran Coupe. Mercedes CLS is widely credited with starting this trend and Audi as the company who took it a notch higher with their A7.
The BMW Gran Coupe's 640i will sport a 320 hp turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine while the 650i will have a 450 hp twin-turbocharged V8. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard.

For completeness sake, The Geneva Motor Show's "Car of the Year" is the Opel (Vauxhall) Apera/Chevrolet Volt on the grounds of outstanding technical progress
The other finalists were: Citroen DS 5, Fiat Panda, Ford Focus, Range Rover Evoque, Toyota Yaris, and VW Up!
